Decide your budget
Shelter Home has gifts at all price points. Even I was surprised at the variety of gifts at all price points. We were given a challenge by one customer to help her put together 19 different gifts at $20 each. We had fun brainstorming and came up with many more ideas than we thought possible.
Pool Resources
You might think about giving a gift as a couple, or with a friend, or as a group.
Be Personal
Everyone loves a gift that lets them know they are special and that you “get” them. A gift should say something about the giver as well as the recipient.
Theme
Does the person already collect something? Glass? Owls? Paperweights? Search the store by category.
Color
Color can be suggested by the event or even where someone lives. Do they live in the city? Or at the shore? Are they sophisticated or down-to-earth?
Threes
Considering giving a group of 3 things: of the same theme, color or same Manufacturer. A group of three makes an impact.
Bang for your buck. I always recommend the vases from Middle Kingdom. Gorgeous shapes & colors, handmade, & in many sizes, they come is a beautiful linen box. A large Lover Vase in pale green. Or a grouping of three mini vases in three different shapes all in the same color. Or in three different colors. No flowers required.
“Starter” Home
New couples, or anyone really, appreciate starter home gifts such as the iconic Alessi 9093 Teakettle by Michael Graves. Or give what I call the “new antiques,” any of the gorgeous decoupage platters or trays from John Derian.
